Who invented the first electric shaver?

Grooming ourselves has been our most important priority since day one. Keeping ourselves perfect for every occasion. With the perfect clothes planned, the best shoes picked out, a tie if needed and yeah maintaining a decent beard.

Yup, many men dream to have facial hair and those who do try their best to maintain it as much as
possible and have it set according to their liking. Even before electric shavers were a thing, we men had been using numerous techniques and different materials to cut out facial hair.

As time progressed and our ancestors reached the 18 th century, the discovery of using sharp blades
(razors) to cut beards was made. After a level of expertise was reached, men started picking unique
designs for their beard which might suit their personality.

But in the late 1920s, Canadian Jacob Schick invented electric razors because he believed if a man
shaved properly every day, he could live up to 120. Jacob Schick went on to apply for his patent his
first electric razor in 1928. Basically, electric shavers are the modified present form of the late electric
razors. His first iteration.

Who is Jacob Schick?

Jacob Schick was an American inventor and entrepreneur who patented the first electric shaver and
started the Schick Dry Shaver, Inc. razor company. He is the father of electric shavers. At an early age of 16, Schick was made in charge of a railroad line. The railroad line moved from Los Cerrillos, New Mexico to a coal mine. This coal mine was opened by his father.

Schick was soon enlisted in the army after some time was assigned to the Philippines in the 1st Division 8th Army Corps. A year later, he was made lieutenant of the 22nd Infantry Regiment in Alaska. There he was made in charge of laying out telegraph lines. He retired from the military but was called back again eventually promoted to Colonel Rank during the chaos of World War 1.

Jacob Schick’s Profession

Electric razors were patented as early as 1900 in the United States, but the first to be successfully
perfected was that on which Jacob Schick, a retired U.S. Army colonel, applied for a patent in 1928 and that he placed on the market in 1931. Competitive models soon started to appear as time moved on.

Some information on what electric shavers actually are

In the electric shaver a shearing head, driven by a small motor, is divided into two sections: the outer
consists of a series of slots to grip the hairs and the inner of a series of saw blades. Models vary in the
number and design of the blades, in the shape of the shearing head (round or flat), and auxiliary devices such as clippers for sideburns.

Death of the Master

After the huge success of his patented electric razors, Schick moved to Canada. After some time,
Schick died from complications due to a kidney operation. He was buried in Montreal, Quebec as his
family lived on for him.
